Inviting change in the Drinks Industry
Runway 28 Irish Craft Gin talks to Island Gin Review Magazine about breaking through, in a traditional industry..
When you come to the table not really knowing the industry lingo “Are you a pouring or craft gin?” you might be facing an uphill climb to that elusive bar shelf, whom so many have dared to reach. However, product is product, sales are sales, and a brand is a brand, in fact when you get right down to it, Brennan’s Bread is just as relevant as Johnston, Mooney & O’ Brien.
A creator and a creative by nature, MarieAnn, with a product development and aviation background ,entered a notoriously competitive business several years ago. “Contacting distributors is as difficult as trying to contact an old boyfriend who’s now married with 2.5 children, having embraced sobriety and cosy nights in by the fire. They don’t what to hear from another aspiring craft gin maker,” said MarieAnn.
But not being in a rush, and being her own sole investor, what she has done is establish her brand presence online, expanded her network, whilst working on her 100% recyclable pocket size 50ml gin pouch. “I believe in change, a little bit of disruption, and the ability for smaller entities like myself to have the opportunity to experiment and trial, that’s pure freedom, who was it that once said that the ultimate freedom is being given the opportunity to fail, and learn? Whoever it was they were 100% correct!”
MarieAnn continues that she feels lucky and privileged to be able to approach her working life like this. “I’ve calculated the risks, and for me at least, the risks are also opportunities. As a very wonderful adviser recently said, if nothing else what a fantastic new canvas to explore”
The exploration continues!
