How Furniture Restoration Designer Mary Doherty has created an Art Deco Furniture Revival within the homes of Donegal.
Based just outside Buncrana, in County Donegal, Mary Doherty’s Serendipity Designs is a unique sustainable business, that specializes mainly in the furniture restoration and the redesign of vintage, art deco and mid century cocktail cabinets, drinks cabinets, bureaus, and bars.
But Mary’s story has always been one of instinct, luck, and creativity! A woman who married her soulmate Kevin, (whom she met accidentally while catching a wrong train in Chicago over 26 years ago!) then followed her heart back home to the breathtaking hills of Donegal, building a life for herself with Kevin, while expanding their horizons, to create a wonderful family of 6! However, this award winning designer and artist, has never shied away from hard work, determination, and a love for maintaining the past..
MD is now the proud owner of MD Serendipity Designs, which through hard work, determination and a love for vintage, proudly became a registered business in June of 2021.
“I have always had a passion for taking neglected unwanted items and turning them into something special, and it was only due to the unusual times during the pandemic, that I found the time to turn that passion into the fully fledged bespoke furniture restoration and redesign business, that you see here today” said Mary.
“There is something very satisfying about preserving the past, and I carry immense admiration for the original craftsmanship that has gone into my furniture, that’s why I pride myself on enhancing it’s character and era rather than obscuring it”…
Specializing in Art Deco, Mid-Century Modern and vintage, the majority of the furniture Mary sources provides a second existence to each cocktail cabinet, drinks cabinet, bureau and bar that is restored.
