What happens when you leave six guests alone with a camera to answer five philosophical questions?

An active child, who ran straight from her schoolyard, to the wide-open spaces of Co. Clare, Susan recalls her instinctive draw to the outdoors, “I wanted to get out, be free, get into the grass, get into the nature, in a way I kind of rejected school as a child, but education is where it’s at, it’s where we pass everything along”.

Ironically, SON is now looking into ways that she can work with kids, create workshops, educate, and pass her experience along.

“I’ve been lucky enough to travel around the world with music, interacting with people from all walks of life, it turns out what I do, more than anything, is connect with people”. And connect she has, winning RTE Radio 1’s “Best Original Folk Track of The Year, 2020” for her duet with Mick Flannery “Baby Talk”.

Reflecting on the year that was 2020, Susan takes a moment to contemplate when asked what her greatest fear is, “being lonely” she replies. “I’ve had a taste of what it’s like to be isolated, I live alone at the moment, by choice, I’ve chosen to put myself in this space to reflect on the world, and what I am, it’s not forever”.

With all things considered SON declares herself a romantic at heart, who loves the sound of strings, channeling the child within, her expression becomes animated, as she shares, her own particular theme song for life. “Romantic Flight, composed by John Powell”, she smiles, “it sounds like this old Irish or Scottish air, with an orchestra behind it, I remember hearing it, and my heart just opened, well that’s my theme song for today, it might be different tomorrow, but that’s my song for today!”.
